Premium Fence Staining Done Right
At Houston Fence Staining, we don’t just stain fences, we restore and protect them using a carefully developed, contractor-grade process. Here’s what to expect when you work with us.
Our Process
1. Quote Request & Measurement
Most quotes start with a virtual estimate using Google Earth or customer-provided photos. This allows us to measure your fence accurately and quickly.
You’ll receive:
A detailed quote
Color options
Product recommendations based on your fence’s condition and goals
2. Stain Selection & Recommendations
We primarily use Sherwin-Williams SuperDeck Stain, a premium 100% acrylic resin formula that offers:
Durable, long-lasting protection — typically lasts 6–8 years between applications
Excellent coverage for weathered or aged fences while allowing the wood’s natural texture to remain visible
A latex-free, acrylic resin blend that resists peeling, cracking, and UV damage — outperforming conventional water-based stains
Same-day application in most cases, thanks to its fast-curing, low-moisture formulation
Versatility to coat over existing stains, making it ideal for both new and previously treated fences
We also offer trusted alternatives like Ready Seal (oil-based) and Olympic Maximum for specific wood types or project needs.
3. Quote Approval & Deposit
Once you approve the estimate
We will work with you to schedule the job based on the weather forecast and crew availability
A deposit may be required for custom-tinted stains (since these are non-returnable)
4. Fence Cleaning
We apply Sherwin-Williams Deck Wash using a low-pressure soft wash method that:
Safely removes algae, mildew, oxidation, and dirt
Prevents wood damage and "furring" caused by high-pressure washing
Prepares the surface for excellent stain adhesion
This step is essential for long-lasting results.
5. Fence Staining
If using SuperDeck, we can usually stain the same day after cleaning. For other products, we may return once the wood has had more time to dry depending on the manufacturer recommendations.
We apply two coats using a professional Graco airless sprayer with low-pressure tips for a smooth, even finish.
We use a wet-on-wet application method, meaning the second coat is applied before the first fully dries. This ensures maximum absorption and prevents peeling that can occur when the second coat sits on top of a dried surface.
To protect surrounding areas and keep stain off unwanted surfaces, we use:
Drop cloths
Spray shields
Tarps and cardboard barriers
Protect and wipe all gate hardware
6. Final Walkthrough & Cleanup
After the job is done:
We walk the project with you for final approval
We leave any leftover stain for future touch-ups or picket replacements
Tip: Store your leftover stain in a cool, dry place (like a garage) and stir well before reuse.
Aftercare & Warranty
We recommend adjusting your sprinklers to not water the fence as this helps protect the stain
Be mindful of lawn equipment or any other objects that could come into physical contact with the fence
We offer a 1-year limited warranty covering labor and materials for issues related to our workmanship (SuperDeck only)
Warranty excludes customer-supplied stain, decks, or damage from weather and neglect
HOA & Neighbor Guidelines
It’s your responsibility to confirm HOA approval before scheduling
If you share a fence, we recommend notifying neighbors to remove items from their side of the fence to avoid overspray risks
Let us know about any sensitive landscaping (e.g. vines, pool decking) that may require extra prep
